The verdict

The best chord finder app depends on where your songs are. For a YouTube video, Chord Lens or Chordify, or Anychord on an iPhone. For a song playing in the room, Chord ai listens through the microphone. For files on a Mac, Capo. For an all-in-one practice suite, Moises. All six have a free way in.

## What each one offers.

Six apps that work the chords out from the audio itself, rather than from a chart someone typed in, compared on what each one says on its own site. This is not an accuracy test: we didn’t run the same songs through each one, so we don’t rank them by how often they get a chord right. Try two on a song you know well; your ears are the test that counts.

Where a feature needs a paid plan or has a free limit, the cell names it. Rows we couldn’t confirm for every app are left out of the table and covered below where a site says it plainly.

02 / 08 · EACH ONE

## The six, one by one.

**Chord Lens** (ours) finds the chords of any YouTube video, in the Studio or under the video with the Chrome extension, and of your own MP3, WAV or M4A with the [Chord Finder](https://chordlens.app/chord-finder). The chords play in time with the song, with the key, the tempo and the sections, the shape for guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin or piano, and the words where the song has them. Key, capo, speed and the metronome are free, and the song splits into six stems. Free gives you 20 new songs a month, up to 7 minutes long.

**Chordify** has a catalogue of 36,000,000 songs, says its App Store listing, and works out the chords of any other song from its audio, synced to the song in its player. It works with YouTube, shows chords for guitar, ukulele and piano, and keeps your library across desktop and phone. Transposing, the capo, slowing down, looping, MIDI and PDF downloads come with Premium.

**Moises** is a practice suite whose Chord Finder shows the chords synced to the audio of a song you upload, with the key, guitar diagrams adjusted for your capo, and Easy, Medium and Advanced voicings. Free users get the chords for the first minute of each song; Premium and Pro get unlimited chord detection. The same app splits stems, changes the pitch and slows songs down, on the web, desktop, iPhone, iPad and Android.

**Chord ai** ([Chord Lens vs Chord ai](https://chordlens.app/guides/chord-ai-alternative)) is a phone and tablet app that finds chords from YouTube, SoundCloud, your audio files or the microphone, in real time for a song playing around you. It tracks the beat, infers the key, transcribes lyrics and splits songs into four stems. The free app covers the common chord types; Pro adds advanced chords such as dim7 and 6/9/11/13, slash chords, voicing and position, a smart capo and alternate tunings.

**Anychord** is an iPhone and iPad app that finds the chords and the beat of a YouTube video, one under 15 minutes and not a live stream, and lays them out as a bar-by-bar grid that follows the video; tap a beat to jump to it. You can change, remove or move the chord on any beat, and the correction is saved with the song. Its diagrams are for guitar, with a left-handed setting, and it has a tuner and a metronome. Free gives four new songs a month; Premium analyses as many as you like.

**Capo** is an app for Mac, iPhone and iPad that detects the chords, beats and key of audio files you own, and works without the internet. Its free edition gives full access to chord detection, slowing and looping; a purchase saves your edits to chords and beats and exports audio, and on Mac exports MIDI and lead sheets. It shows diagrams for guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo and mandolin, and simple piano diagrams. It can’t read streaming tracks such as Spotify or Apple Music.

## Pick by where the song is.

On YouTube? Chord Lens and Chordify both take the video, and Anychord does on an iPhone or iPad. Chord Lens adds stems, so you can mute your part and play with the rest, and key and speed come free. Chordify adds its catalogue, so you can find a song without opening a video. Moises’s Chord Finder page talks about songs you upload.

Coming out of a speaker or played by the band in the room? Chord ai listens through the microphone. Chord Lens never records your microphone: it reads the video you name or the file you bring.

A file on your computer, with no internet? Capo processes everything on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Chord Lens’s Chord Finder takes your MP3, WAV or M4A too, signed in, on a computer or the Chord Lens app for Mac.

Want one app for the whole practice routine, from chords to stems to a click? Moises and Chord Lens both put chords, stems, pitch and speed in one place; Moises has store apps for every platform, and Chord Lens is a web app that splits stems in your browser.

Pick one song you already play well and run it through two of these. Where they disagree, play both chords against the recording and trust your ears.

04 / 08 · SIX MORE

## Six more you’ll see named.

Search for a chord finder and AI answers also name these six. They aren’t in the table because their sites don’t cover every row, so each gets a one-line verdict from its own site or store listing instead.

**Swaram** is a free web chord finder: paste a YouTube link or upload an MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC up to 30 MB, with no account, and it shows the chords with guitar and keyboard diagrams and a transpose control. Verdict: the quickest free try for one song, with no stems or player around it.

**Audelta** is a set of browser tools that takes a YouTube link or a file and gives the key, the chords and the BPM, free with no signup, with a stem splitter beside it and premium options for heavy users. Verdict: handy for a quick key, chords and tempo check in any browser.

**ChordU** is a web app with iPhone, iPad and Android apps: upload your music for chords and notes on guitar, piano, ukulele or mandolin, in Simple, Advanced and Bass versions, with a capo, a transposer and tempo control. Basic features are free; Premium removes ads. Verdict: worth a look if you want a bass version of the chart.

**Chord Tracker** is Yamaha’s free iPhone and iPad app. It shows the chords of songs stored on your device, as piano keys or guitar diagrams, but not songs in iCloud, songs with DRM or Apple Music. Verdict: for files you own on an iPhone, especially with a Yamaha keyboard.

**Riffloop** is a Chrome and Edge extension with a web Studio: a practice toolbar under the YouTube player that splits the song into six stems in your browser, loops a section, changes the key and slows it down, and shows the chords, key and BPM of the part it splits, with guitar diagrams. It is free to start; full-song chords are on Pro. Verdict: a stem and loop practice tool first, with chords alongside.

**StrumTube** is a free website: paste a YouTube link and it shows the chords synced to the video, with guitar and ukulele diagrams, transpose, a capo suggestion and a tuner, and a library of songs other people have analysed. Its iPhone and Android apps have a waitlist. Verdict: a free, no-sign-up Chordify-style chart for guitar or ukulele.

06 / 08 · HOW WE CHECKED

## How we checked.

We read each app’s own pages on 23 October 2026, Anychord’s on 3 November 2026, Swaram’s, Audelta’s, ChordU’s and Chord Tracker’s on 4 November 2026, and Riffloop’s and StrumTube’s on 5 November 2026, signed out, and linked every one below. Chordify’s website refuses plain requests, so its cells come from its own App Store listing and help pages. Moises shows its prices only after you sign in, so no Moises prices appear here; see [its pricing page](https://studio.moises.ai/billing/pricing/). We leave the other prices out too: each one changes by country and store.

We make Chord Lens. Every Chord Lens row comes from the Studio’s Upgrade page, its plan limits and our tool pages the same day.

No test results, scores or rankings: we didn’t measure them. If a page changes, the date at the top tells you how old this is.

### What is the best chord finder app in 2026?

There isn’t one best for everyone, and we ran no accuracy test, so we don’t name one. Pick by where your songs are: YouTube (Chord Lens, Chordify, Anychord on iPhone), the room around you (Chord ai), files on a Mac or iPhone (Capo), or a full practice suite (Moises).

### Which chord finder app is free?

All six have a free way in. Chord Lens gives 20 new songs a month with key, capo and speed. Chordify gives chords for any song, with transposing and looping on Premium. Moises gives the first minute of each song. Chord ai covers the common chord types, Anychord gives four new songs a month, and Capo’s Free Edition includes chord detection, slowing and looping.

### Chordify or Chord ai: which is better?

They suit different players. Chordify has a catalogue of songs that already have chords and a library on desktop and phone. Chord ai is a phone and tablet app that also hears a song through the microphone and draws more instruments. For a YouTube video with stems, key and speed free, try Chord Lens.

### What is a chord recognition app?

An app that works out a song’s chords from its audio, rather than showing a chart someone typed in. All six here do: you give it a video, a file or the sound around you, and it names each chord in time with the song.

### Can a chord finder app hear the song through my microphone?

Chord ai can: it finds the chords of a song playing around you in real time. Chord Lens doesn’t record your microphone; it works from a YouTube video or a file you bring, which keeps the chords in time with the recording.

### Which one finds the chords of a YouTube video?

Chord Lens works on any public YouTube video, in the Studio or with the Chrome extension’s Chords button under the video. Chordify’s listing names YouTube integration, Chord ai loads songs from YouTube too, and Anychord takes YouTube videos under 15 minutes on an iPhone or iPad. Swaram and Audelta take a YouTube link in the browser.

### How accurate are chord finder apps?

Every one of them gets some songs wrong. Songs with a clear band and steady chords come out right most of the time in Chord Lens; busy jazz voicings, noisy recordings and songs with no clear harmony are harder for any app. Check the chart by ear before you rehearse from it.

### Can I change the key or slow the song down?

In Chord Lens, both are free: move the key up to 12 semitones either way and play from half speed to double with the pitch kept. Moises has pitch and tempo tools, Capo slows songs on its free edition, and Chordify puts transposing and slowing down on Premium.
