01 / 07 · SIDE BY SIDE

What each one offers.

Five well-known stem splitters, compared on what each one says it does on its own site. This is not a sound-quality test: we didn’t run the same songs through each one, so we don’t rank them by how clean they sound. Try two on a song you know; your ears are the test that counts.

Where a feature needs a paid plan or has a free limit, the cell names it. Rows we couldn’t confirm for every product are left out of the table and covered below where a site says it plainly.

02 / 07 · EACH ONE

The five, one by one.

Chord Lens (ours) splits the song in a YouTube video, or your own MP3, WAV or M4A file, into six stems: vocals, drums, bass, piano, guitar and other. The split runs in your browser on your computer, and the chords play in time above the faders, with the shape for your instrument. Free splits a 2-minute part you choose, 5 times a day; Premium splits up to 8 minutes of a song and Pro up to 12.

Moises is a creative suite for musicians: separation into up to 27 stem types on its top plan, chord detection, key and speed, lyrics transcription, mastering and a DAW plugin, in a web app, a desktop app and phone apps. Its free tier gives a limited number of uploads a month.

LALAL.AI separates vocals, drums, bass, guitars, piano, synth, strings and wind from audio or video files, alongside voice cleaning and lead/backing vocal tools. Its free Starter plan gives 10 minutes with result previews; downloads come with the paid plans, and Pro adds a VST plugin and local processing. It has apps for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.

Ultimate Vocal Remover is free, open-source software (MIT licence) you install on Windows, macOS or Linux. It runs the separation models on your own computer, so speed depends on your hardware; its page names an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB as the minimum for GPU conversions.

Fadr splits songs in the browser. Its free Basic plan separates vocals, melodies, drums and bass, with MP3 downloads and MIDI detection, and its Stems page detects the key and tempo and shows the chord name as the song plays. Fadr Plus adds more stems (kick, snare, guitars, piano and others), WAV downloads and plugins.

03 / 07 · CHOOSE

Pick by the job, not the ranking.

Making a remix or a sample pack from audio you own? You want downloads and many stem types: Moises, LALAL.AI or Fadr Plus, or Ultimate Vocal Remover if you’d rather install it and pay nothing.

Learning a part from a song? You want to mute your part and play over the rest with the chords in front of you. Upload your own audio and that is what Chord Lens is built for. Chord Lens is for practising and studying a song yourself; Premium (MP3) and Pro (WAV) stem downloads are for your own study, not to share or publish.

On a phone? Moises and LALAL.AI have store apps. Chord Lens installs to your home screen as a mobile web app with the chords and the words, but splitting needs a computer.

05 / 07 · HOW WE CHECKED

How we checked.

We read each product’s own pages on 23 October 2026, signed out, and linked every one below. Moises shows its prices only after you sign in, so no Moises prices appear here; see its pricing page (checked 23 October 2026). One Moises help article we used was last updated in January 2025.

We make Chord Lens. Every Chord Lens row comes from the Studio’s Upgrade page and our tool pages the same day.

No test results, scores or rankings: we didn’t measure them. If a page changes, the date at the top tells you how old this is.

AI YouTube Stem Splitter

Upload your own audio and split it into six stems, with the chords in time above them. Free to try.

01What is the best stem splitter in 2026?

There isn’t one best for everyone, and we didn’t run a quality test, so we don’t name one. Pick by the job: free installs (Ultimate Vocal Remover), many stem types and apps (Moises, LALAL.AI), free MP3 stems in the browser (Fadr), or practising a YouTube song with its chords (Chord Lens).

02Which stem splitter is free?

Ultimate Vocal Remover is free and open source. Fadr’s Basic plan is free with MP3 downloads. Chord Lens, Moises and LALAL.AI have free plans with limits: Chord Lens splits a 2-minute part 5 times a day, Moises gives a limited number of uploads a month, and LALAL.AI’s Starter plan gives 10 minutes with previews.

03Can I use Chord Lens on my own files, or only YouTube?

Both. The Chrome extension works right on the YouTube video you’re watching, listening to the song as it plays. To split stems, upload your own audio in the Studio (MP3, WAV or M4A, up to 50 MB). Premium exports stems as MP3 and Pro adds WAV, for your own study and practice. The other four work from audio files; Moises also imports from a public URL.

04Which one shows the chords too?

Chord Lens plays the chords in time above the stems, with the shape for guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin or piano. Moises has a Chord Finder synced to the audio, and Fadr shows the chord name as the song plays.

05Which one runs on my own computer?

Ultimate Vocal Remover is installed software that runs on your computer. Chord Lens splits in your browser on your computer, after a one-time download of about 140 MB. LALAL.AI lists local processing on its Pro plan.

06Can I split stems on my phone?

Moises and LALAL.AI have store apps. Chord Lens doesn’t split on phones: on a phone the Studio installs to your home screen as a mobile web app with the chords and the words, and splitting needs a computer.

07Is it legal to split copyrighted songs into stems?

Practising and studying a song yourself is broadly considered fair use under US copyright law, with similar rules elsewhere. Chord Lens is for that kind of use, and its stem downloads are for your own study only. To publish a cover, use the original audio under YouTube’s licensing, or get a sync license.
